Washington Institute 2022 was a reimagined hybrid (in-person and virtual) conference and opportunity for new and seasoned advocates from National Council of Jewish Women to come together at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC.

It was the first opportunity since the pandemic to learn new skills and tools, advance their collective mission, and make their voices heard.

It all culminated in The Jewish Rally for Abortion Justice on Capitol Hill – sending a powerful message that they are committed to the fight to ensure a just future.

3 Pillars Co. was tasked with elevating the theme of Changemaking & Community at The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Washington Institute in 2022. We were also challenged to integrate Jewish identity and values into our thematic work and transition from a policy-focused conference to a strategic program that would engage attendees in meaningful ways.

To accomplish this, we curated meaningful experiences for attendees to connect after a COVID hiatus. Such experiences included an experiential lounge called Hannah’s Hangout, which featured a showcase of progressive women-owned local businesses and thoughtful activities encouraging networking and creativity. The space also included an exhibition of stories of women’s experiences with abortion by a regional artist.

We curated a space where attendees could be comfortable in, inspired and empowered by their community. We invited women to share their stories, hear from each other, and learn new skills that would prepare them to create change locally and globally.

Our goal was to make the conference accessible for all attendees regardless of income level, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. We also focused on ensuring no one felt excluded by including kosher meals and snacks, even while coordinating the special food truck lunch.

The result was 472 live and virtual attendees including international attendees from Israel, 10 women-owned exhibitors, 50+ speakers from all over the world for a 3-day program—sharing knowledge and community in Washington, D.C.
